Top 10 Things About Mercyhurst

There are a lot of great things about Mercyhurst, but these top ten are just a few of my personal favorites things that make this place so special!
Rhonda at Egan Dining Hall during Halloween!

1. Rhonda and Egan: Egan Dining Hall is the best place on campus to get a salad. I love the salad bar! But also when you go for breakfast or lunch, chances are you'll run into Rhonda. She is like that campus grandma, and she knows all the students. She swipes are card at the entrance of the dining hall. She asks you how your day is, and always wears a smile! The students around campus adore her!! She definitely makes my top ten about Mercyhurst!

2. Professors: Just a small glimpse as to why Mercyhurst is amazing. We are a small school with some big school qualities, like professors! Being ranked #47 for private-universities in the nation, our teachers are eager and willing to make us work hard. I love that our professors give 110% and hold us to high expectations. I also love that all of my professors know me by name, and are more than willing to take time to help me with their class on an individual basis.

3. International Love: As an avid traveler, there is sometimes nothing more fascinating than learning about another culture or tradition. We have a large international student population. My favorite part about making friends with many international students is entertaining the thought that I'll have friends to catch up with or even visit when I travel!!

4. Free Laundry: Yup I said it! FREE. It is so nice to not have to save up or get rolls of quarters. At Mercyhurst we have free laundry facilities for students that live on campus. This means you just have to bring your own soap and learn how to sort your colors and you are golden!

5. Baldwin: After spending 4/4 of my years in Baldwin Hall, there is literally no place like home. I've had the opportunity to literally grow up in this hall. Every day brings good memories and laughs. Essentially the community aspect makes the building feel like a sorority house. There are always girls watching movies, painting nails, doing homework, and listening to music. I definitely have a sense of ownership and dedication to it now!

6. Free Bus System: If you don't have a car on campus (or aren't allowed- Freshman!), Mercyhurst thought of a perfect system. A free public bus! It picks us up at Mercyhurst and goes virtually everywhere in Erie. It rides up to our main strip, the mall, the movies, all of our restaurants, downtown to the bayfront, the library, and to our Northeast campus. All students need to do is pick their route and show their Mercyhurst ID and they ride for free!

7. Free Exercises Classes at the Gym: I know its getting repetitive, but its for FREE! We have all of these great fitness classes worked into our daily schedules. That way if you want to stay fit and don't really know how, you can try out a class. All of our classes are run by certified, student instructors!  I personally love the spinning classes, but we also offer zumba, yoga, P90X Mercyhurst style, and much more!

8. Hockey: I don't know about you all, but I am such a hockey fan. It is definitely a plus to be a hockey fan at Mercyhurst too, because we love hockey! We have D1 men's and women's ice hockey teams, and you guessed it--- students get in for Free! We don't have to pay for our tickets, and the rink is right on campus! Go Lakers!

9. Campus Joe: Joe is such a nice guy. He has been around campus for years, and he delivers mail and works in the MAC (Athletic Center). I first saw Joe at some Mercyhurst athletic events on campus my freshman year. He is always around, cheering on the Lakers. Joe takes tickets at the Ice Hockey games and also sits in on Mercyhurst Student Government meetings! I love seeing Joe around campus, smiling and supporting his Lakers!

10. Beauty: There aren't many campuses with the history and beauty to match. I love Mercyhurst for this! There is a serious sense of cohesion and matching architecture to all of the campus buildings. Even more important a serious sense of pride. Campus is very well kept. It is beautiful (especially in the fall) outside, with plenty of green space to hang outside on. I love our campus!
